Samsung Galaxy Not Working Right? Common Fixes for the Most Frustrating Problems

Samsung phones are incredibly capable and, when they’re working well, genuinely impressive. But they also have a well-documented list of recurring quirks and problems. This guide covers the issues Samsung users report most often and gives you concrete fixes for each one.

Phone Freezes or Becomes Unresponsive

Force restart by pressing Volume Down and Power simultaneously for 8 seconds (on most Galaxy models). If this happens regularly, go to Settings > Device Care > Memory > Clean Now. Also check for pending software updates under Settings > Software Update. Regular freezing that doesn’t resolve with updates may indicate a failing app — boot into Safe Mode to test.

One UI Notifications Not Working

Samsung’s One UI is aggressive about putting apps to sleep to save battery, which can kill notifications. Go to Settings > Battery > Background Usage Limits and check Sleeping Apps and Deep Sleeping Apps. Remove any app from these lists that needs to deliver real-time notifications. Also check Settings > Apps > [App] > Notifications to verify nothing is blocked at the app level.

Bixby Keeps Activating by Accident

Go to Settings > Advanced Features > Side Key (or Bixby Key on older models) and reassign the key to Power Off menu or Quick Launch Camera. You can effectively disable Bixby activation from the hardware button this way. For Bixby Voice in particular, go to Bixby settings and turn off Voice Wake-up.

Galaxy Store Keeps Sending Ads

Open Galaxy Store, tap the three-dot menu, go to Settings, and disable Notifications for promotions and recommendations. Also go to your Samsung Account settings and opt out of marketing communications. This won’t remove all Samsung promotions but significantly reduces them.

Wi-Fi Keeps Disconnecting

Go to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi Preferences (or Advanced) and disable Wi-Fi Power Saving Mode. Samsung’s aggressive power management sometimes disconnects Wi-Fi when the screen is off. Also disable Switch to Mobile Data under the same menu — this can cause your phone to prefer cellular even when Wi-Fi is available.

Camera App Crashes or Has Poor Quality

Clear the Camera app’s cache via Settings > Apps > Camera > Storage > Clear Cache. If quality seems degraded, go into Camera settings and reset to defaults. Samsung pushes scene optimization settings through updates and these can sometimes produce over-processed results — try disabling Scene Optimizer in Camera Settings.

Phone Getting Too Hot

Open Device Care, tap Battery, and check which apps are running. Samsung phones can run warm during Bixby processing, DeX mode, gaming, or after updates. If heat is persistent outside of these activities, check battery health and consider a Service Center visit if the phone is under warranty.
