Why I switched from Gboard to this keyboard

Gboard has long been my preferred keyboard on my Android phone. However, I recently moved to the Samsung Keyboard and have not looked back.

1. Spelling and Grammar Checker

One of the primary reasons I switched to the Samsung Keyboard was its smooth integration with Samsung’s Galaxy AI features. Unlike Gboard, which only offers basic autocorrection, Samsung Keyboard goes a step further.

After I’ve written a message, I may press the Galaxy AI symbol to review it using the Spelling and Grammar feature. This function exposes grammatical problems, recommends corrections, and clarifies ambiguous phrases.

Once the text is edited, I can easily enter it into the message field. This is very beneficial when speaking with colleagues or sending an email from my phone to avoid embarrassing mistakes or ambiguous language.

2. Writing Style Assist and AI Composer

Beyond addressing spelling and grammatical errors, Samsung Keyboard excels at adapting my content to different circumstances. For example, after sending a basic message like “Can we meet later?,” Galaxy AI may convert it into a professional, informal, or polite tone in seconds.

Whether I need to impress a client, speak with a buddy, or converse politely with someone, the Galaxy AI makes it easier to generate content that fits a given tone.

There’s also the Composer feature, which is similarly useful when I’m stumped for ideas. All I have to do is tap the Galaxy AI icon, provide a few message information, then select the format and tone I prefer. The AI then generates a message for me depending on my input.

In comparison, Gboard does not offer anything close to this degree of functionality, forcing me to rely on other AI tools.

3. Text Extraction Tool

While Android phones make it simple to extract text from photographs, it normally requires additional steps such as taking the image and then using an OCR tool in the Gallery app. Samsung Keyboard makes this process easier.

With a single press of the Extract text option, I can direct my Galaxy phone’s camera to the text I wish to record. Once recognised, I click the Paste button, and the extracted text is immediately ready for use.

This tool is quite useful, although I do not use it on a daily basis. Unfortunately, Gboard lacks this feature, which puts it at a disadvantage in comparison.

4. Quick Access to My Favorite Symbols

Both Samsung Keyboard and Gboard offer quick access to symbols such as &,%, #, @, and others. What I enjoy about the Samsung Keyboard is that I can replace the default symbols with the ones I use the most. For example, I replaced $ with €, # with _, and so on to better meet my specific requirements.

To do so, go to Samsung Keyboard settings, press Custom symbols, and then select the character you wish to switch. It’s a minor change, but it has significantly improved my typing experience.

5. More Customization Options

Gboard has a lot of themes, colours, and gradient possibilities, but it’s no match for what I can accomplish with the Samsung Keyboard, particularly with Good Lock’s Keys Café module.

It allows me to customise every aspect of my keyboard to match my unique taste. I can alter the font of the keys, select brilliant colours, add dynamic animations, and even adjust the typing sound to create a fully unique experience.

6. Easy Access to Samsung Pass

Finally, there’s the option to utilise Samsung Pass directly from the keyboard—a function I didn’t realise I needed until I started using it.
With Samsung Keyboard, I can hit the three horizontal dots in the upper right corner, then choose the Samsung Pass icon, which displays my saved passwords, payment cards, addresses, and even safe notes.

It is quite easy, especially when purchasing online or logging into apps. Gboard does not provide anything comparable, forcing me to manually retrieve or enter this information each time.

While the Samsung Keyboard may not have the same widespread popularity as the Gboard, I’ve grown to appreciate its different capabilities. If you own a Galaxy phone, I highly recommend giving the Samsung Keyboard a try—it might just transform your typing experience, as it did for me!
