According to the most recent Canalys data, the most powerful and expensive device in Apple’s lineup is also the most popular in the world. According to Canalys, high-end cell phones (those costing more than $500) have “bucked the trend.” Shipments in the smartphone market have been declining for the past two quarters. However, the premium smartphone market rose by 4.7% in the first quarter of 2023. Furthermore, high-end smartphones accounted for about one-third of all smartphones sold in Q1 2023.
Canalys predicted that the market would remain tough in 2023, with modest declines. “Shipments will stabilise around the levels from 2022 as we move into the middle of 2023,” said Canalys Research Analyst Lucas Zhong. Decline rates will begin to improve soon, albeit this is primarily due to the narrowing of the gap between 2022 and 2023. Canalys anticipates that the smartphone industry will pick up steam in the second half of the year as channel stocks improve.”
