On addition to Dynamic Color for certain of the always-on display (AOD) clocks, Android 16 Beta 4 changes the time on the status bar.
The font has changed, and the majority of the numbers, including 1 and 2, are broader than before. However, the 0 appears slightly narrower to my eye. (The screenshots below come from a pair of Pixel 9 units.)
Additionally, the spacing has been adjusted, with a bigger gap between the 1 and 2. Everything is also little, taller.
As of this beta, Google has not changed the typeface or spacing for the battery % on the right. There have been no other modifications to the status bar icons.
Overall, everything appears slightly wider, which you will notice immediately after updating, although the difference fades with time.
It remains to be seen whether this clock adjustment will make it into the stable Android 16 release in June. This is most likely part of Google’s modernization strategy.

Android better spacing
Overall, Android 16 Beta 4 has been rather stable. After the Thursday launch, I loaded it on my daily driver (Pixel 9a — to receive 15 QPR2 features like Modes, the disappearance of the globe icon while the keyboard is open, and so on) and haven’t had any problems. It’s a good time to join the beta, with Beta 4.1 expected in May to include the next monthly security patch and other bug patches, such as lock screen shortcuts on select devices.
