God of War Greek trilogy remake is in progress, and God of War Sons of Sparta is available now.

God of War was released on the PlayStation 2 more than two decades ago, in March 2005, kicking off Kratos’ remarkable adventure through ancient Greece and beyond.

As we reach the final month of God of War’s 20th anniversary year in March 2026, we couldn’t let this milestone pass without delivering fans one final big surprise!

We’re excited to confirm that the original God of War trilogy is being redone, and what better way to do so than with the iconic TC Carson, who brought Kratos to life in the Greek story!

This project is still in its early stages of development, so please be patient as we will not be able to reveal anything else for some time. When we can return with an update, we intend to make it huge!

We are overjoyed to finally announce what our partners at Mega Cat Studios have been working on – God of War Sons of Sparta!

God of War Sons of Sparta is a 2D action platformer with a canon plot set in Kratos’ childhood, during his hard training at the Agoge with his brother Deimos.

Sons of Sparta, from the writing team at Santa Monica Studio that brought you God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök, is a tale of duty, honour, and brotherhood starring TC Carson, who returns as the adult version of Kratos, our story’s narrator, for the first time in over a decade!

God of War’s kinetic warfare has found a place in an entirely new genre. Kratos will learn deadly skills with his spear and shield, as well as how to wield powerful divine artefacts known as the Gifts of Olympus, to defeat a diverse range of enemies. Sons of Sparta brings back great classics recreated in 2D with breathtaking hand-drawn pixel animation, as well as a slew of new creatures inspired by the rich, untapped sides of Greek mythology, brought to life by Mega Cat Studios’ retro expertise.

As we look to the future, we want to engage in the past and tend to the series’ roots that have brought us to where we are now. We understand that reconstructing the Greek story has been a popular request; fans’ real, passionate desire to see the original games back is something we’re grateful for, and we can’t wait to reveal more when the time comes!
