Google Maps is getting a new update that makes checking your commute even easier. According to a new report, Google will soon add a feature to the main screen of Google Maps that automatically shows how long it will take you to get home — without needing to open navigation.

Currently, if you want to see your estimated time of arrival (ETA), you must tap the “Home” button beneath the search bar and then view the route preview or start navigation. The process takes a few extra steps just to check how long your drive home will be.

That might soon change. According to Discord user winner00 (via Android Authority), Google Maps will soon display your ETA to home directly on the Home button below the search bar. This means you’ll instantly see your travel time at a glance, no extra taps required.

The time indicator will also be color-coded — green, yellow, or red — just like other ETAs on Google Maps, helping you quickly see if traffic is clear or congested.

It’s a small but handy update that will save users time and make commuting smoother. You’ll be able to plan your trips or commutes more efficiently from work, school, or anywhere else, especially during busy hours when every minute counts.

In addition to this, Google has started integrating Gemini AI into Google Maps, replacing some functions of Google Assistant. This AI upgrade allows users to give advanced voice commands (like avoiding toll roads) and receive context-aware information, such as current weather conditions or nearby points of interest.

So far, only one user has spotted the new home time chip feature, but Google is expected to roll it out to more users in the coming days.
