Did you receive a check in the mail or an email containing payment from an Apple settlement? Don’t toss it away! It’s your share of a $95 million class-action settlement resulting from a lawsuit alleging that the tech giant’s voice assistant Siri was used to spy on personal conversations.

According to the settlement administrator’s website, payments for the Lopez v. Apple Inc. settlement were paid last month, with distribution ending on January 26. Eligible members would have had to submit a claim form by July 2, 2025 to be included.

Last year, Apple agreed to pay $95 million in a lawsuit alleging “unlawful and intentional recording of individuals’ confidential communications without their consent.”

According Apple court documents, the purported recordings were place even when customers did not attempt to activate the virtual assistant using the trigger words “Hey, Siri.” According to the lawsuit, some of the recorded conversations were shared with marketers in order to pitch their products to people who were more likely to be interested in the goods and services.

Apple continues to dispute the charges.

The settlement applies to everyone who purchased or owned an Apple device between September 17, 2014 and December 31, 2014 and had an unintentional Siri activation “during a conversation intended to be confidential or private.” The suit includes the following devices: an iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, MacBook, iMac, HomePod, iPod touch, and Apple TV.

How will you get paid?

The administrator reports that all payments were disbursed on January 23. Digital checks, ACH deposits, and physical checks may take a while to arrive, so please be patient,” the administrator stated.

Digital checks are coming via email. Check your spam folder, please’, the website advised. “If you selected a digital cheque and do not see your payment email within one week, please contact us for further investigation or reissue.”

Court filings state that cash will be forfeited if payment is not received within 120 days.

How much cash were you able to obtain?

According to the settlement website, class members will receive a pro rata share of the payout, up to a maximum of $20 per device, if they file claims for up to five devices. Depending on the total number of devices and claims, final compensation may go up or down.

A payment of $40.10 was shown in one payment email that NBC Chicago was able to obtain on February 3.
